In countries where male latex condoms are available, sexual partners can derive much benefit from them. They serve dual roles of unwanted pregnancy prevention and reduction in the occurrence of sexually transmitted diseases. However, these benefits only come with their proper use.
The advantages of male condoms are not available in countries where the possession or use of condoms is illegal. In those regions of the world, rates for human immunodeficiency virus infection and other sexually transmitted diseases are quite high. This is especially the case with male prostitutes who do not carry condoms and therefore have unprotected sex with other men.
